The history of how, why and where steroids began and who all invented and helped to develop them:
Steroids were first developed by a scientist named Berthold in 1849. In 1946 a scientist a scientist named Ruzicka continued the study and further developed them by synthesizing a compound from Testosterone, from cholesterol, as did two other scientists, Butenandt and Hanisch. Testosterone was the first anabolic steroid ever created.Testosterone was then used in 1936, in an experiment demonstrating that nitrogen excretion of the castrated dog could be increased by giving the dog supplemental testosterone, and this would increase its body weight. It was rumored shortly after this that the Nazi's were giving them to the German soilders in order to make them bigger and stronger there is no documented proof of this though. Later the pharmaceutical firms Searle and Ciba had experimented with the synthesizing of over a thousand different types of testosterone. In the 50's a doctor named John Ziegler attended the World Weightlifting Championships in Vienna Austria as the teams doctor. They dominated the competitions that year easily breaking several world records, and winning gold metals in all weight classes. Of course the Americans began to research these testosterone injections they were using. They developed their own form of the injections which were stronger these were called: , Methandrostenolone and were given the name Dianabol. In the following years, little pink Dianabol tablets found their way into many weightlifter´s training program, fast forward a few years, and in the early 1960s, there was a clear gap between Ziegler´s weightlifters and the rest of the country, and much less of one between them and the Soviets. It was also in the 1960´s that another anabolic steroid had been developed and used to treat short stature in children with Turner Disease syndrome.
